Monterey County, CA (May 16, 2026) – Three people were hurt Friday morning after a crash at the intersection of Highway 68 and Torero Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 45-year-old Carmel man was heading westbound on Highway 68 in a Dodge pickup truck at an undetermined speed. At the same time, an 88-year-old man from Salinas was driving a silver pickup truck in an unknown direction when the two vehicles collided at the intersection. Emergency crews arrived on scene and evaluated multiple people involved in the crash. Officials reported that those in the Dodge pickup sustained suspected minor injuries. The driver of the silver pickup suffered suspected serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and no additional details have been released. Authorities continue to review the incident, with more information expected as the probe progresses. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care. What Factors Are Often Examined in Highway Intersection Crashes? Highway junction collisions frequently necessitate that investigators analyze factors such as vehicle velocity, sight lines, and priority-of-way rules. When several vehicles arrive at an intersection simultaneously, even minor errors in judgment can result in severe collisions. Investigators typically examine traffic lights, road markings, and drivers’ reaction times to determine how the accident unfolded. Vehicle damage patterns can reveal the direction and intensity of a collision. At times, the assessment includes roadway design and visibility, particularly in rural highway intersections where the speed is increased. Medical reports and eyewitness accounts could later offer further insight into the circumstances of the crash.
