Modesto, CA (May 3, 2026) – A severe collision involving two vehicles at a bustling Modesto intersection caused significant injuries and briefly closed eastbound lanes on Thursday morning. The California Highway Patrol reports the crash happened around 8:32 a.m. At the intersection of East Hatch Road and Clinton Road. Early reports show the crash involved a white compact car and a gray Jeep-like vehicle. Emergency crews arrived to discover one individual trapped in a vehicle, with smoke reportedly filling its interior. Firefighters worked to free the person from the wreckage as paramedics delivered emergency medical treatment on-site. The seriousness of the incident prompted authorities to categorize it as a major injury crash. Ambulances took several people to local hospitals for medical care. The precise count of injured individuals and the severity of their injuries have not yet been fully disclosed. As a result of the crash, eastbound lanes on Hatch Road were shut down, with traffic rerouted to Clinton Road as crews cleared the debris and conducted their investigation. Tow services were called for the severely damaged vehicles. By mid-morning, the road was reopened, and traffic resumed. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
