Menifee, CA (May 10, 2026) – A pedestrian was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle driven by a suspected DUI driver while crossing an intersection in Menifee. The collision occurred shortly before 5 a.m. On Saturday, May 9, close to the corner of Menifee Road and Newport Road. Emergency crews were dispatched after a 911 caller reported that a pedestrian sustained visible head trauma when struck by a Kia sedan while crossing the street. Officials stated that the unidentified pedestrian was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment. He was said to be in stable but critical condition after the crash. Investigators reported that the driver, Omar Sangines of Winchester, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. He suffered minor injuries in the accident. A preliminary investigation determined that the driver ran a red light at high speed and hit a pedestrian who was crossing in the crosswalk on Newport Road. Police reported that the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the collision, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
