McFarland, CA (September 12, 2025) – According to the California Highway Patrol, emergency services responded to a head-on collision early Thursday morning on State Route 46, located just west of Highway 99 near McFarland. The accident occurred around 7:52 AM on September 11, in close proximity to the Famoso Travel Center in northern Kern County. Preliminary reports suggest that two cars collided head-on while moving in opposite directions on a heavily traveled section of SR-46, an important route for both regional and inter-county traffic. Emergency responders, including fire crews and paramedics, arrived quickly to evaluate and assist those affected by the accident. Several individuals received on-site assessments for injuries, and at least one person was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Although the level of injuries has not been disclosed, officials have reported that the crash caused substantial damage to the vehicles involved and necessitated prolonged emergency response actions. Traffic on both sides of SR-46 was affected as responders worked to remove the debris and initiate an investigation into what led to the incident. The CHP has not disclosed the identities of those involved or indicated if factors such as weather, speed, or distraction contributed to the incident.
