East Los Angeles, CA (May 25, 2026) – A man sustained injuries Monday morning when he was struck by a truck near the intersection of West Whittier Boulevard and Hoefner Avenue. The crash was reported around 8:25 a.m. as a pedestrian versus a pickup call. Later reports from dispatch revealed that the man had been struck by a truck, which had fled the scene before police arrived. Emergency services were dispatched to the intersection, and firefighters were also called to help. Later updates indicated that the man sustained an ankle injury, though the full extent of his harm was not disclosed. The crash is still under investigation as authorities try to identify the driver. We hope the injured man gets the care and support he needs while recovering.
Why Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents Can Be Difficult to Investigate. Hit-and-run pedestrian incidents are often challenging due to the absence of critical information left behind when the driver flees the scene. Investigators might have to depend on eyewitness accounts, nearby surveillance footage, vehicle fragments, and road signs to determine the sequence of events. Even a brief delay can complicate determining which way the vehicle was heading. Being struck by a truck or pickup can leave pedestrians with injuries to their legs, ankles, hips, back, or head. Medical staff can examine for broken bones, swelling, damage to soft tissues, and difficulty walking.
