Los Alamos, CA (March 22, 2026) – A pedestrian died early Saturday morning, March 21, after a vehicle hit them on northbound Highway 101 near Alisos Canyon, just outside Los Alamos. Emergency crews arrived around 2:02 a.m. after reports of a vehicle-pedestrian accident. Officials discovered a 37-year-old Alabama man dead at the scene. The pedestrian’s name has not been released. California Highway Patrol officials state that he was in the northbound lanes when struck. No further information on the vehicle or driver has been disclosed. Officials are still probing the incident, with updates to follow as they emerge. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the pedestrian’s family. Why Pedestrian Crashes Happen on Highways. Pedestrian collisions on highways are frequently fatal due to the high speeds of vehicles. When someone unexpectedly steps onto the road, drivers have barely any time to react. Poor visibility, particularly at night or in rural areas, heightens the chance of a collision. Shoulders and medians are not always built to safely handle pedestrians. Even short exposure to a highway can cause serious or fatal injuries.
