(Long Beach, CA) A woman passed away days after a hit-and-run vehicle struck her on Redondo Avenue. Long Beach Police Department officers arrived at the scene shortly before 4:50 p.m. On Saturday, February 7, authorities responded to reports of a hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist near Redondo Avenue and East Second Street. Upon the officers’ arrival, a bystander was already administering medical assistance to the injured woman. Paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department took her to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 55-year-old Lori Carreon. According to detectives, the initial investigation found that Carreon was riding her bicycle south on Redondo Avenue when a gray 2025 Hyundai Sonata heading west on East Second Street entered the intersection and hit her. Police reported that the vehicle was traveling at high speed and did not stop at a stop sign. Investigators said the Hyundai fled westbound on East Second Street following the crash. Detectives subsequently named Christopher Bryant as a suspect and took him into custody on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, hit-and-run resulting in death or serious injury, and reckless driving. He was held on $50,000 bail. Officials stated that speeding was a contributing factor in the deadly accident.
