Long Beach, CA (March 17, 2026) – A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in a crash on the morning of Tuesday, March 17, in Long Beach. The crash happened at approximately 6:50 a.m. on Interstate 405 near North Lakewood Boulevard. Emergency responders arrived at the scene following a collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle under unclear circumstances. The rider sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials also reported a distinct two-vehicle collision in the vicinity at approximately the same time. The incident caused only property damage, with no injuries reported. Authorities are still investigating the crash’s cause, and further details will be shared as they emerge. Our thoughts are with the injured rider as they undergo medical treatment. What Makes Motorcycle Crashes on Freeways More Severe? Riders on motorcycles face severe injuries in freeway crashes owing to their minimal protection. Even when wearing safety gear, motorcyclists remain far more vulnerable than occupants of passenger cars. Traveling at high speeds on highways such as Interstate 405 heightens the impact force in a crash. Abrupt lane changes, sudden braking, or poor visibility can make it more difficult for drivers to spot motorcycles in traffic. Congested roads and multiple crashes in one area can also increase hazards.
