Lodi, CA (May 5, 2026) – A significant collision between two semi-trucks occurred on Tuesday morning, May 5, along northbound Interstate 5 just south of Peltier Road in Lodi. The incident took place at approximately 6:18 a.m. It involved a gray semi-truck with a trailer and a white semi-truck also pulling a trailer. Initial reports state that a semi-truck was hit while moving, leading to major traffic disruptions on the road. One driver reportedly thought a person might have been trapped under a vehicle at the scene, although that has not been confirmed. Emergency responders arrived to discover multiple trucks involved, including damage to a trailer’s front end and a tire assembly. The crash’s severity led to major traffic disruptions in the area, including lane closures and a temporary traffic alert. Tow services were called for both commercial vehicles, with a heavy-duty recovery unit needed because of the trucks’ size and load. One lane stayed closed for hours as crews cleared the area. Officials are still probing the crash’s cause, with further details to follow as they emerge. Our thoughts go out to those impacted during their recovery. What Makes Semi-Truck Crashes More Complicated Than Typical Collisions? Semi-truck crashes typically require more time to clear because of the vehicles’ large size and heavy weight. When trailers are involved, recovery may require separating equipment and handling cargo before the road can be reopened. These incidents can also result in prolonged lane closures, particularly on high-speed highways.
