What Makes Wrong-Way Driving Crashes So Dangerous. Head-on collisions, among the most severe types of crashes, often result from wrong-way driving incidents. A head-on collision between two vehicles can generate a combined force that results in extensive damage and severe injuries. Drivers staying in their proper lane often have minimal time to respond to an approaching vehicle from the opposite direction. This reduces the likelihood of avoiding the crash. Factors like confusion, poor visibility, or impaired driving can sometimes lead to wrong-way incidents. Road layout and signs also prevent drivers from mistakenly entering the wrong lanes.
