Lafayette, CA (May 7, 2026) – Three people were injured and traffic was backed up for miles after a chaotic multi-vehicle pileup on eastbound Highway 24 west of Oak Hill Wednesday night, May 6. The crash was reported just before 9 p.m. after a white sedan reportedly started swerving erratically through traffic. Drivers took evasive action, leading to a chain-reaction crash involving as many as five vehicles. Emergency services arrived promptly and shut down all eastbound lanes of the freeway. Traffic was backed up beyond Lafayette and into Orinda while crews worked the scene. Several onlookers paused to assist those involved before emergency services reached the scene. Initial reports suggested one individual may have been thrown from the vehicle in the collision, though this could not be verified when this article was published. Three individuals were reportedly transported to nearby hospitals, but the severity of their injuries remains unknown. Officials are still looking into the cause of the collision, and additional information will be shared as soon as it becomes available. Our thoughts go out to everyone impacted as they work toward recovery.
