(Bakersfield, CA) A 19-year-old man died early Saturday morning, January 17, after a vehicle struck him in a crash on South H Street. The Bakersfield Police Department stated that officers were dispatched around 1:51 a.m. To the 4200 block of South H Street on January 11. Upon arrival, officers discovered a young man unresponsive in the road. Emergency medical personnel arrived and declared the pedestrian deceased at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office subsequently identified the victim as 19-year-old Joseph Adam Cruz Jr. of Bakersfield. According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle was traveling on South H Street when it struck Cruz. Police have not disclosed if impairment or speed contributed to the crash. Authorities shut down South H Street temporarily while officers documented the scene and conducted the preliminary investigation. The road reopened later once evidence collection was complete.
