According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian who was hit and killed on the night of October 10 near Coachella has been identified as Jorge Guillen, a resident of Coachella. The deadly crash on Grapefruit Boulevard took place just after 6:30 p.m. At the junction of Grapefruit Boulevard and 54th Avenue, officials from CAL FIRE and CHP reported that Guillen sustained severe injuries and was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital by paramedics. The doctors declared him dead shortly thereafter. Information regarding the vehicle and the driver involved has not been disclosed at this time. It is still uncertain if drugs, alcohol, or speed were factors involved. Authorities shut down sections of the intersection for several hours during the investigation conducted by CHP officers.
