On Thursday night, October 9, a collision on Norris Road led to the fatality of 31-year-old Jesus Torrez Loya Jr. from Bakersfield, as reported by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The California Highway Patrol indicated that the incident happened at approximately 8:55 p.m. to the east of Stockton Avenue. An initial inquiry revealed that a 27-year-old man from Bakersfield was operating a 2010 silver Toyota Corolla while heading east on Norris Road. They found out that he was traveling at about 45 miles per hour when the crash happened. The reasons are still being looked into, but Torrez Loya was crossing from the north shoulder to the south side, away from any designated crosswalk. While he was crossing, he was hit by the Toyota. By the time the authorities got there, he was declared dead at the location. The driver halted right away and worked with law enforcement. The CHP stated that it is still uncertain if substances like alcohol or drugs were involved in the Norris Road incident.
