(San Diego, CA) A 14-year-old boy died Saturday night, December 13, in a crash on Camino Ruiz in Mira Mesa when he was hit by an SUV on a foggy road. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Camino Ruiz and Hydra Lane. According to authorities, Jayden Stewart was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Traverse. Paramedics took him to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead. The crash occurred amid heavy fog. The investigation is still underway. Overview of the Camino Ruiz Crash. Investigators commonly cite the Pedestrian Crossing Law when a pedestrian walks in the roadway during nighttime or poor visibility conditions. The law outlines pedestrians’ duties when crossing or walking beyond designated crosswalks, and it mandates that drivers proceed with caution. In this scenario, officers will evaluate the impact of fog, lighting, and distance on the driver’s ability to see Jayden prior to the collision. Given the substantial reduction in visibility, analysts might also take the Basic Speed Law into account.
