The California Highway Patrol classified the incident as a hit-and-run without injuries. The dispatch information did not provide additional descriptions of the vehicles or identify a suspected driver.
By 3:53 p.m., two vehicles were reported to be on the right shoulder. The update indicated that the vehicles had been moved out of the main travel lanes.
