(Pacoima, CA) On Friday evening, January 30, a woman was fatally struck by a driver who fled the scene in a hit-and-run at a busy Van Nuys Boulevard intersection. Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived around 5:50 p.m. to the Van Nuys Boulevard and Glenoaks Avenue area. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered an elderly woman who had sustained fatal injuries from being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street. Paramedics soon arrived and declared her dead on site. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner subsequently identified the victim as 75-year-old Thelma Moreno, a Pacoima resident. Investigators reported that a black Dodge Durango was heading eastbound on Van Nuys Boulevard, east of Glenoaks Avenue. At some point, as she crossed the roadway, it struck Moreno. According to police, the driver failed to stop and kept heading east without providing assistance. Officials did not disclose details on speed, traffic signals, or lighting conditions. Several details were still unknown as detectives kept examining evidence and canvassing the area for leads. Overview on the Van Nuys Boulevard Hit-And-Run. When a deadly crash involves a pedestrian and a driver who flees the scene, investigators examine traffic safety regulations to identify potential contributing factors, avoiding premature blame.
