Helendale, CA (May 22, 2026) – A hit-and-run collision on Sheep Creek Road near Dos Palmas Road caused a full road closure and injured at least one person late Wednesday night. The incident was initially reported around 10:06 PM in the Silver Lakes area, between Arcadia and Sacramento. A black sedan flipped several times after colliding with a semi-truck and came to rest on its roof on the left shoulder. The semi is believed to have driven off without stopping, though this had not yet been confirmed when the first report was issued. A white Honda sedan was also involved in the crash. A full road closure was put in place between Cholame Rd and Chevoit Rd while emergency crews worked the scene. Two vehicles were impounded as evidence. The highway was completely reopened later that morning. Authorities have not yet released any names or ages related to the crash, and the severity of the injuries remains unconfirmed at the time of this report. The investigation is still ongoing, with further updates anticipated as the review progresses. Our thoughts are with the victims as they receive medical treatment. What makes hit-and-run crashes on desert highways especially difficult to investigate? Hit-and-run incidents on isolated desert highways in California create difficulties rarely seen in city collisions. Lower traffic flow reduces the number of potential witnesses, while dim lighting at night makes it more difficult to identify vehicle details or read license plates.
