Gonzales, CA (January 21, 2026) – A fatal single-vehicle crash on River Road in Gonzales on Monday afternoon claimed one life and injured at least two others, the California Highway Patrol reported. The collision happened around 5:33 p.m. On January 19, on River Road (also called County Road G17), just north of Gonzales River Road, a vehicle struck a power pole under unclear circumstances. Multiple occupants were impacted following the collision. A passenger allegedly got out of the vehicle and tried to help those still inside. Emergency responders arrived and discovered a man lying on the right shoulder of the road and a younger woman standing outside the vehicle, both with apparent injuries. Responders also found a baby inside the vehicle upon arrival. Firefighters and paramedics immediately provided medical care at the scene. At least one person with serious injuries received CPR. Even after life-saving attempts, officials later confirmed that one individual succumbed to injuries from the crash. More victims received treatment for various injuries, although details on their current conditions remain incomplete. The roadway was affected as first responders secured the scene and aided those involved.
