Fresno County, CA (January 2, 2026) – Authorities report that 19-year-old Mattix Salmon of Kingsburg died in a tragic crash Monday evening when a semi-truck struck his pickup truck in Fresno County. The fatal collision happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Close to the Manning Ave and Riverside Ave intersection. Investigators stated that a big rig operated by Marlon Tavarez of San Joaquin was heading east on Manning Ave when it swerved into the oncoming lane and sideswiped a westbound Chevrolet Silverado driven by Salmon. The collision’s force sent the pickup truck off the road, where it flipped multiple times before landing upside down on its roof. Emergency responders reached the scene and verified that Salmon had succumbed to injuries from the crash. Tavarez was unharmed and stayed at the location after the incident. Officials indicated that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The California Highway Patrol is ongoing with its probe into why the semi-truck veered into oncoming traffic. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mattix Salmon in this profoundly challenging period.
