Fresno, CA (May 10, 2026) – A 14-year-old girl suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized after being hit by a pickup truck while riding an electric scooter in Fresno County. The collision occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. On May 9, which fell on a Saturday, along Weldon Avenue close to the intersection of First and McKinley. California Highway Patrol officers reported that the teenager was riding an electric scooter next to a 12-year-old girl as they neared an intersection. According to investigators, the 14-year-old ran a stop sign, entered the crossroads, and rode directly into the path of an oncoming Dodge pickup truck. The truck collided with the scooter, ejecting the teenager. Paramedics rushed the seriously injured girl to the hospital. The second rider did not sustain serious injuries. Officials reported that the pickup truck driver stayed at the scene and was unharmed in the collision. Police reported that neither rider was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. Our thoughts are with the injured teenager as she undergoes medical treatment. Why E-Scooter Crashes at Intersections Can Be So Severe. Accidents between electric scooters and other vehicles at intersections frequently cause severe injuries, as scooter riders lack the protective shielding provided to passengers in bigger automobiles. Missing a stop sign or traffic signal can cause riders to enter a roadway before oncoming drivers have enough time to react. Intersections demand fast decisions from both drivers and riders, and visibility often plays a critical role in whether a crash occurs.
