A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Power Inn Road and Judette Avenue in Florin on Thursday, May 7. Emergency services arrived at the scene after the crash. The driver stayed on site and worked with responders. It has not yet been confirmed whether alcohol played a role in the crash, and the pedestrian’s identity has not been disclosed. The matter is still being investigated, and further information will be provided as it emerges. Our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends. What Factors Contribute to the High Rate of Pedestrian Crashes in California’s Suburban Areas? In California’s suburban areas, pedestrian collisions frequently happen at intersections and along roads where high vehicle speeds intersect with foot traffic, often in the absence of sufficient safety measures. Locations featuring faint or absent crosswalk lines, inadequate lighting, or higher speed limits are associated with a greater number of these incidents. Florin and other unincorporated areas near Sacramento often feature roads that feel more rural than residential, which consistently raises concerns about pedestrian visibility. In recent years, California has continued to report some of the highest pedestrian fatality rates in the country.
