(Sun Valley, CA) Late Tuesday night, February 3, one person died and four others were hurt in a crash on the southbound 5 Freeway. Los Angeles Fire Department crews arrived at the southbound lanes near Penrose Street around 3:53 p.m. , per department spokesperson Lyndsey Lantz. Early accounts stated that a pedestrian had entered one of the freeway lanes as two vehicles crashed. Emergency responders discovered one individual with fatal injuries on site. Paramedics declared the victim deceased at the scene. Officials withheld the individual’s name, age, and gender. That information was still unavailable as the investigation proceeded. Authorities have yet to explain what the pedestrian was doing right before the collision. Four others were injured and transported to local hospitals for care. First responders reported a 42-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman in serious condition, and a 19-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl in fair condition, Lantz said.
