On November 18th, an 89-year-old woman was tragically killed in a car accident on Imperial Avenue in the Jamacha area of San Diego, CA. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when her car was hit by an SUV as she was turning. The information is provided by the San Diego Police Department. at the crossroads of Imperial Avenue and Viewcrest Drive. Investigators reported that Lucy Prewitt Starkes was driving a Volkswagen Jetta in a westward direction on Imperial Avenue. While trying to turn left, a Ford Excursion heading in the opposite direction crashed into her car. Even though emergency helpers arrived and tried to help, they announced that Starkes had died from her wounds at the accident site. The driver of the Ford Excursion was not injured, and authorities stated that alcohol and drugs played no role in the accident. Summary of the Imperial Avenue Crash. In left-turn accidents, investigators frequently examine various California traffic laws to establish liability and contributing elements. The Left-Turn or Yield Law mandates that drivers making a left turn must give way to approaching traffic until it is safe to finish the turn. Inaccurately assessing distance or speed can result in severe or deadly accidents. The Duty to Exercise Due Care Law obligates all drivers to act carefully and implement appropriate steps to prevent crashes, even if they have the right-of-way. Additionally, the Basic Speed Law requires drivers to maintain a speed that is safe and appropriate for the conditions of the road and visibility.
