(California City, CA) A fatal crash on Highway 43183 north of Phillips Road claimed at least one life Wednesday afternoon, December 31, when a vehicle rolled over. CHP got reports at around 12:37 p.m. Two other vehicles forced a different driver off the road prior to the crash. The vehicle flipped over and ended up on its side along the northbound lane of Highway 14. Authorities shut down two lanes and northbound traffic on Phillips Road for several hours starting just after 1:15 p.m. The identity of the deceased individual will be disclosed later by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. Authorities have yet to confirm witness reports of tailgating as the cause of the crash, which is still under investigation. Overview on the Highway 14 Crash.
