El Cajon, CA (May 14, 2026) – A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Wednesday, May 13, on Fletcher Parkway near the 8125 block. The event was reported just after 12:24 p.m. Emergency crews arrived at the scene, where the crash was confirmed to have been fatal. No additional information about the victim or the vehicle has been released. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and further details will be shared as they become available. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased. What Are the Most Common Causes of Pedestrian Fatalities in California? California regularly appears among the states with the highest annual pedestrian fatality counts. Many of these collisions occur on local roads and busy commercial strips, where pedestrians and vehicles share space at speeds that allow almost no margin for mistakes. Busy roads such as Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon, which are lined with shops and businesses, typically experience greater pedestrian traffic all day long. Speed is one of the main factors determining whether a pedestrian survives being hit by a vehicle. At higher speeds, a driver’s stopping distance decreases sharply while the force of any collision rises dramatically.
