Greenfield, CA (May 21, 2026) – A 12-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after the electric bicycle he was riding collided with a vehicle on the 300 block of Thorp Avenue in Greenfield. According to investigators, the boy was riding the e-bike against the direction of traffic at the time of the crash. Authorities concluded that the young cyclist was responsible for the road accident. The boy was not wearing a helmet at the time. He was airlifted by emergency services to a hospital in the Bay Area for treatment and is anticipated to make a full recovery. The adult driver stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Officials reported that the motorist was properly licensed, insured, and not impaired. No further information about the wreck had been released as of Friday. Authorities are still investigating all aspects of the crash. We are keeping the child and his loved ones in our thoughts as he continues to recover. Why E-Bike Safety Rules Matter for Young Riders. E-bikes are capable of higher speeds than conventional bicycles, potentially raising the chance of severe injuries if cyclists disregard road regulations. Young cyclists are particularly at risk due to limited experience in estimating speeds, gaps in traffic, and overall road conditions. California law mandates that anyone under 18 must wear a helmet when riding a bicycle or e-bike.
