Cupertino, CA (May 13, 2026) – A hit-and-run collision resulting in injuries occurred Tuesday afternoon on southbound Interstate 280 near the State Route 85 connector in Cupertino. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after 1:29 p.m. following reports of a crash between a dark blue Volkswagen station wagon and another vehicle whose make and model remain unknown. Initial reports from the caller indicated that another vehicle had hit her car before fleeing the scene. Authorities also received accounts that an object had struck the windshield during the event. Later analysis by investigators raised the possibility that a second vehicle could have been involved in the accident. Details regarding the severity of injuries sustained in the crash have not yet been disclosed. Southbound traffic was disrupted as emergency teams responded to the incident and evaluated the situation. No description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run has been released so far. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash, and additional information may be made public as it becomes available. Our thoughts are with those who were injured as they receive medical treatment. How Hit-and-Run Crashes on Freeways Are Investigated. Hit-and-run incidents on major highways are often hard to investigate, as the vehicles typically flee the scene rapidly and road conditions can change within minutes. Investigators typically start by examining damage patterns and road evidence to reconstruct how the accident happened. Physical clues like shattered glass, paint transfers, or scattered vehicle debris can help identify the types of vehicles involved.
