(Valle Vista, CA) A newborn baby was left unresponsive on Sunday afternoon, February 1, following a crash at a rural intersection on New Chicago Avenue near Hemet. California Highway Patrol officers reported the collision happened around 5:15 p.m. Close to the corner of New Chicago Avenue and State Route 74. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered two vehicles halted in the middle of the intersection after the crash. According to the CHP, a woman in one of the vehicles was holding an unrestrained 2-week-old baby during the collision. Officers stated that they discovered the newborn unresponsive at the scene and that the child did not wake during the initial assessment by first responders. Officials have not yet confirmed the baby’s condition. Investigators have not disclosed whether any other individuals were injured in the crash. The CHP also failed to reveal the vehicles’ directions of travel or the cause of the crash. Several details, such as speed and right-of-way, were still unknown while the investigation proceeded.
