Corona, CA (April 20, 2026) – A fatal collision with a wrong-way driver took place early Sunday morning, April 19, on the Riverside Freeway in Corona. The crash took place at approximately 5:35 a.m. On the westbound side near the Green River Road off-ramp, authorities reported that a vehicle—believed to be a black Ford pickup truck—was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. A vehicle traveling the wrong way caused a collision with at least five other vehicles, including a big rig. Abel Quintero, a 25-year-old Lake Elsinore resident, was identified as the victim who died in the incident. The big rig driver was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Shortly after the crash, all westbound lanes were closed, and traffic stayed backed up for around two hours as crews handled the scene. Further information on other drivers or vehicles involved has not been disclosed. Authorities are still investigating the incident. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim who died. Why Wrong-Way Crashes on Freeways Frequently Result in Serious Consequences. Freeway wrong-way crashes are typically more hazardous than other collisions since vehicles frequently travel at high speeds toward each other.
