Castro Valley, CA (February 26, 2026) – A pedestrian died in a deadly collision on eastbound Interstate 580, just west of Center Street in Castro Valley, on Wednesday, February 25. The incident was reported around 9:21 PM and involved a big rig and an unidentified white SUV. A preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrian darted onto the freeway for unknown reasons before being hit. The truck driver stayed at the scene and is assisting with the investigation. The white SUV’s driver fled the scene following the collision, and police are seeking public assistance to identify the vehicle. As of Thursday morning, the victim’s identity remained unknown.
