(Winnetka, CA) A 12-year-old boy died early Monday morning, December 22, following a collision on Saticoy Street in Los Angeles’ Winnetka neighborhood, where he was hit by a vehicle. The incident occurred around 2:49 a.m. at the intersection of Saticoy Street and Winnetka Avenue. According to police, the boy was crossing outside of a crosswalk when the vehicle struck him. The driver stayed at the scene and was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. The investigation is still underway. Overview of the Saticoy Street Collision. Investigators frequently apply the Pedestrian Roadway Safety Law when a pedestrian crosses the roadway outside a designated crosswalk. The law mandates that pedestrians yield to vehicles outside of crosswalks, while obligating drivers to exercise due care. Officers will assess lighting, sight lines, and traffic conditions to determine how the boy entered the roadway in the Saticoy Street collision. Since police suspect DUI, analysts are also examining the DUI Prohibition Law.
