Desert Center, CA (May 23, 2026) – A 31-year-old driver suffered serious injuries Friday morning after a two-semi-truck collision on Interstate 10 near Corn Springs Road. The crash happened just before 5:20 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on May 22 in the eastbound lanes. Investigators reported that a semi-truck driven by a 63-year-old man was traveling around 50 mph when it was hit from behind by another semi traveling at about 55 mph. The collision caused major damage to the second truck, separating its cab from the frame. The 31-year-old driver from Bell Gardens was flown by helicopter to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment, while the other truck driver escaped injury. Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for his full recovery.
Why Rear-End Collisions Involving Semi-Trucks Can Be So Severe Rear-end collisions with large commercial trucks often cause severe injuries because of the immense weight and momentum involved; even minor speed differences between heavy vehicles can generate powerful impact forces. When examining these crashes, investigators generally focus on factors such as vehicle speed, driver attentiveness, braking distance, and road or lane conditions. Fatigue is frequently assessed in commercial truck accidents, as extended driving periods can impair reaction times. Major truck crashes typically necessitate highway shutdowns to facilitate emergency medical care, vehicle removal, and road debris cleanup. Information like vehicle damage and scattered debris aids in reconstructing the collision.
