Big Bear Lake, CA (December 29, 2025) – A boulder tumbling down the slope led to a two-vehicle crash that injured five people Friday evening on Highway 18 near Big Bear Lake, the San Bernardino County Fire Department reported. The crash happened around 5:45 p.m. On December 26, 2025, close to mile marker 44. Officials stated that a massive rock broke loose from the hillside and fell onto the road, causing a sudden collision between two vehicles in the vicinity. Firefighters arrived promptly at the site and evaluated five people who suffered minor injuries from the incident. Four of the injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure. Caltrans teams also arrived at the scene to safely clear the boulder from the road. After clearance, the impacted section of the highway was reopened to traffic. We are thankful the injuries were not more severe and wish all five people a quick and full recovery.
