Bakersfield, CA (May 11, 2026) – According to the California Highway Patrol, a man died in a high-speed collision on northbound Highway 99 in Bakersfield early Sunday morning. The crash happened at approximately 1:58 a.m. tæt på Hosking Avenue. CHP reported that a black 2015 Honda Civic, speeding in the third lane, struck the rear of a 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by a 34-year-old man from Delano. The collision sent the Honda veering northeast, where it came to a stop on the right shoulder beneath the Hosking Avenue overpass. Emergency responders declared the Honda’s driver dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical. He is working with officials while the CHP investigation is ongoing. Clear weather prevailed when the crash occurred, though it remains unclear if alcohol or drugs were involved. Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased in this heartbreaking incident, and we wish the semi-truck driver a complete and speedy recovery. Why High-Speed Rear-End Collisions Are Often Fatal. High-speed rear-end collisions are especially hazardous, as the force of the impact rises sharply with increasing speed.
