Anaheim, CA (December 11, 2025) – Eight students from a local high school track team suffered injuries Wednesday afternoon after a driver, suspected of driving under the influence, veered off the road and hit them while they were on a training run, the Anaheim Police Department reported. The incident took place around 3:00 p.m. Close to the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and North Street. Police report that the students, aged 16 and 17, were standing at a traffic light with their adult coach when a vehicle veered off the road onto the sidewalk and struck them. Officials have identified the driver as 27-year-old Anthony Alva-Palafox, who was heading south on Harbor Blvd with a green light but lost control for undetermined reasons still under investigation, hitting the teens. His vehicle kept moving forward, colliding with the perimeter wall of a nearby house. Seven students were taken to the hospital with assorted non-life-threatening injuries, while one stayed under observation awaiting further tests. Footage from the scene showed at least one student receiving treatment on a stretcher as emergency responders arrived. The adult chaperone traveling with the students was not listed among the injured. Alva-Palafox was hurt in the accident and taken for medical care. Police observed that he showed “objective signs of intoxication” and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Officials are waiting for blood test results to assess the precise degree of impairment and detect any substances present. The vehicle has been seized for the continuing probe, with authorities seeking a search warrant to inspect potential evidence within it.
