Anaheim, CA (March 17, 2026) – Two police officers suffered injuries early Monday, March 16, during a collision with a wrong-way driver in Anaheim. The crash took place at approximately 2:24 a.m. Near Gene Autry Way at the northbound I-5 junction with the eastbound 91 Freeway. Emergency crews responded to reports of a wrong-way driver on the eastbound 91 Freeway just after 2 a.m. A collision then took place between the wrong-way vehicle and a patrol unit at the scene. The two officers received treatment on-site for minor injuries. The other driver was transported to a local hospital, but their condition remains undisclosed. Scene footage revealed beer cans atop the involved vehicle, and officials are investigating if alcohol played a role. No further details are available right now. Officials are still probing the reason behind the collision, with additional information to be shared when it emerges. Our thoughts are with the injured as they get medical treatment. What Makes Wrong-Way Crashes So Dangerous on Freeways. Wrong-way crashes rank among the deadliest roadway accidents since they typically involve vehicles heading straight at one another. This can result in severe collisions, particularly on high-speed freeways. These accidents frequently happen at night when visibility is reduced and traffic is sparser.
