(Palmdale, CA) A 29-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence after a DUI accident on Sierra Highway resulted in the death of a 47-year-old woman from Rosamond early Sunday morning, October 19, as per the report from the California Highway Patrol. Authorities began receiving notifications around 12:07 a.m. Concerning an accident on Sierra Highway, located south of Avenue E, reports indicate a frontal collision between a 1999 Chevrolet and a 2018 Hyundai. Authorities reported that the Chevrolet, operated by a suspect known only as Gonzalez from Palmdale, was observed swerving into oncoming traffic several times before it crashed head-on into a Hyundai. When officials reached the location, they declared the female driver of the Hyundai deceased at the scene. Gonzalez sustained significant injuries, leading paramedics to take him to Antelope Valley Medical Center. Once he receives medical attention, police will arrest him on charges of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The California Highway Patrol officers conducting the investigation caused traffic disruptions on the road.
