In South Los Angeles, a 68-year-old man was fatally injured on Monday, November 17, at approximately 10:27 p.m., due to a collision on West 76th Street. The incident occurred when another driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, ran a red light, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. at the crossroads of West 76th Street and Broadway. A vehicle heading south, identified as a Chevrolet Trax, disregarded traffic signals and crashed into a car moving eastwards, specifically a Toyota Camry. Upon their arrival, emergency medical professionals hurriedly transported the Camry’s driver to a medical facility, where he was subsequently declared lifeless. According to the police, the individual under investigation displayed symptoms of alcohol intoxication and sustained minor injuries. They were arrested for both DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Further information is not yet available from the LAPD, as they have not disclosed the suspect’s name or any further details regarding the ongoing investigation. Here is a summary of the incident on West 76th Street. When there is a suspicion of alcohol involvement in a deadly accident, investigators enforce the Driving Under the Influence Law. This law forbids driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If impairment results in a death, it can be charged as vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated under California Penal Code 191.5, which is a serious felony. Additionally, since the driver is said to have run a red light, the Red-Light Violation Law applies as well. Drivers must come to a complete stop at red lights before moving on when it is safe to do so.
