(Phoenix, AZ) On Wednesday afternoon, November 12, a man suffered severe injuries in a Central Avenue accident when a speeding motorist disregarded a red light and crashed into him on a sidewalk near downtown Phoenix. The Phoenix Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. at the junction of Central Avenue and McDowell Road. Upon their arrival, the officers discovered a male pedestrian, whose identity remains undisclosed, in a critical condition. According to the investigators, a dashcam recording revealed a dark-colored vehicle exceeding the speed limit and colliding with another vehicle that was making a left turn, despite the red light. The speeding car was unable to maintain control after the accident, swerving off the road and colliding with a person walking on the sidewalk. Emergency medical technicians quickly transported the injured individual to a nearby medical facility. The police stated that the investigation is still active, and it is uncertain whether impairment played a role in the accident. Summary of the Central Avenue Collision. The Red-Light Violation Law applies when a driver ignores a red light and causes an accident. This law mandates that drivers must halt at red traffic signals and stay stopped until it is safe to continue. Disregarding this rule is a frequent and risky factor in severe intersection accidents like this. Since the driver allegedly hit a pedestrian after losing control, investigators might also invoke the Reckless Driving Law.
