(El Cajon, CA) A 35-year-old man from Lakeside was detained on charges of felony hit-and-run following a collision on Ballantyne Street that seriously injured a 12-year-old boy earlier this week, as reported by the El Cajon Police Department. The incident took place at approximately 8 p.m. On Wednesday, October 22, in the 300 block of Ballantyne Street, close to East Park Avenue. During their inquiry, authorities discovered that Dani A. Korkis was operating a white BMW X5 on the roadway. At one moment, he hit the child, causing serious head injuries. By the time law enforcement arrived, Korkis had already left the area, leaving behind debris on the street. When paramedics got there, they swiftly transported the boy to a local hospital, where he was admitted in severe condition. Authorities reported on Friday that his vital signs were stable. Authorities employed an automatic license plate recognition system along with additional databases to pinpoint the vehicle of the suspect. Law enforcement eventually found the car at a location in Lakeside, showing damage that matched the accident’s description. Korkis was taken into custody and processed at San Diego Central Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury.
