Bishop, CA (October 199, 2025) – A tragic head-on crash involving a large truck towing a horse trailer and an SUV resulted in at least one fatality Saturday afternoon on U.S. Highway 395 close to Steward Ln in the Bishop vicinity. The accident took place at approximately 1:32 p.m. As stated by the California Highway Patrol, officials confirmed that the event included a white Dodge pickup truck towing a horse trailer and a gray GMC Acadia. Initial reports suggest that the accident happened when the SUV collided with a horse trailer, as the pickup truck driver was trying to make a U-turn on the highway. Emergency responders found both vehicles extensively damaged and obstructing the northbound lanes. The crash was reported as a deadly event soon after they got there. The name of the deceased individual has not been disclosed as authorities await informing the family. Because of the seriousness of the accident, both lanes of US-395 were closed for several hours. Traffic heading north was redirected to a dirt road on the east side, causing considerable delays while crews focused on clearing the area. Teams specializing in recovery, along with heavy-duty towing services, arrived from Mammoth and Hawthorne to help remove the debris. Officers from CHP Bishop are currently looking into the incident to determine the cause, examining various possible factors like driver mistakes, road conditions, or vehicle malfunctions.
