Los Angeles, CA (April 4, 2026) – A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning near Century Boulevard and Western Avenue in Los Angeles. The crash took place around 3:36 a.m. Close to the southeast corner of Jesse Owens Park. Emergency responders arrived following reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian at a street takeover event in the area. Officials noted that the crowd started scattering upon the responders’ arrival, prompting requests for additional units to control the scene. The vehicle from the crash escaped the scene with other vehicles departing the event. The injured individual was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. No information on the victim’s identity has been disclosed. Officials are still probing the crash’s cause, with further updates to follow as they emerge. Our thoughts go out to those impacted during their recovery. Why Street Takeovers Heighten Pedestrian Crash Risks. Street takeovers typically feature big crowds assembling around vehicles in motion on public roads. These scenarios can rapidly turn hazardous, particularly when drivers execute stunts or speed near crowds. Poor visibility, abrupt vehicle maneuvers, and erratic crowd reactions can all heighten the chance of someone getting hit. Frequently, pedestrians and vehicles lack distinct barriers between them, heightening the risk of accidents. In the event of a collision, involved drivers often flee the area rapidly, complicating efforts to identify the culprits.
