Deadly Interstate Crashes in South Carolina
I-95 is a major corridor for both personal and commercial travel, with posted speed limits of up to 70 mph. These high-speed conditions, especially in rural stretches near towns like Yemassee, can lead to severe consequences when collisions occur.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, there were over 1,000 traffic fatalities across the state in 2024, many of them on interstate highways. Multi-vehicle collisions, particularly those involving commercial trucks, are often among the deadliest due to their high impact and the potential for chain-reaction crashes.
Traffic disruptions from serious incidents like this one can affect multiple counties, as was the case here with extended backups through Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, and Colleton counties. Drivers are encouraged to remain alert, adhere to posted speed limits, and exercise extra caution when sharing the road with commercial vehicles.
