Tracy, CA – On the morning of Friday, September 53, 2025, a Chevrolet Silverado plunged into the Delta Mendota Canal, resulting in the deaths of 52-year-old William J. Doyle and 48-year-old Roland M. Penamante, while a female passenger was injured, as reported by KCRA. The California Highway Patrol stated that the incident occurred at approximately 8:00 AM close to the intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 132 in San Joaquin County. The woman who survived the accident was able to escape from the submerged vehicle. She arrived at the outskirts of the highway and tried to signal the vehicles passing by for assistance. Motorists who observed her state contacted emergency services. Upon the arrival of the officers, they discovered she was distressed and hurt. Medical staff assessed her at the location and rendered care for the injuries sustained in the accident. Officials reported that the woman stated she was a passenger when the car veered off the road and plunged into the canal. She stated that Doyle and Penamante stayed inside the vehicle as it sank beneath the water. Subsequent investigations validated her story when authorities found tire marks and fragments of a vehicle that led straight to the water’s edge. The dive team from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office commenced searching the canal soon after the officers arrived. Divers found the Silverado lying at the bottom of the waterway. Upon inspecting the interior of the truck, they discovered it was empty.
