Bakersfield, CA – A tragic accident on the morning of Saturday, September 20, 2025, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left another injured, as reported by KBAK. The California Highway Patrol indicated that the incident occurred around 11:44 AM at the junction of Highway 65 and Famoso Road. According to investigators, a 76-year-old man was driving a 2016 Honda Fit east on Famoso Road when he failed to stop at a designated stop sign before entering the intersection. Simultaneously, a 55-year-old man was operating a 2014 Freightliner truck heading south on Highway 65. The truck collided with the driver’s side of the Honda with great force. This collision caused the Honda to whirl uncontrollably before it finally settled on the dirt shoulder to the east of the road. The Freightliner also lost its stability, hit a dirt bank, and rolled over. An overturned truck blocked the southbound lane and partially hindered the northbound lane, resulting in a total closure as crews worked at the scene. Both the driver of the Honda and his 66-year-old female passenger sustained fatal injuries from the accident. Emergency officials confirmed that both victims were deceased at the location of the incident. The driver of the Freightliner suffered minor to moderate injuries. Medical staff took him to Kern Medical Hospital for care. Officials verified that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the accident. The California Highway Patrol is still looking into the incident. Authorities are investigating the timeline of events that resulted in the fatal collision at the rural intersection in Kern County. Legal claims for wrongful death are being considered.
