The California Highway Patrol indicated that the incident occurred at approximately 10:35 PM on westbound Highway 4 close to the McEwen offramp in Martinez. Khorram, a construction inspector for Caltrans, was working within a designated closure when an asphalt truck, as identified by investigators, struck him in the work zone. The collision resulted in severe injuries for him. Emergency responders took Khorram to a local hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Authorities stated that Khorram had been employed with Caltrans since 2023. He is survived by his spouse and a three-year-old son. Officials characterized him as a devoted public servant focused on enhancing road safety for drivers in California. The dump truck driver stayed at the location and assisted with the investigation.
