A tragic accident involving a van and a large truck resulted in the death of three children and injuries to three others on Saturday evening in Madera County, CA. The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place at approximately 6:00 PM on September 13 at the intersection of Road 24 and Avenue 7, west of Ripperdan. Initial reports from the CHP suggest that a van transporting a family of five failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and was subsequently hit on the side by a westbound big rig pulling two trailers. The collision had disastrous results. A 15-year-old male was declared deceased at the location. A 6-year-old girl was taken to Valley Children’s Hospital after suffering serious injuries, but unfortunately, she did not make it. A 17-year-old girl lost her life in the accident, but authorities have not yet verified the details regarding where or when it occurred. The 45-year-old woman operating the van, thought to be the children’s mother, along with another passenger, suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals. The 38-year-old truck driver sustained moderate injuries. All the victims who survived were taken to the hospital for medical care. The large truck veered off the road and ended up in a canal after the accident, releasing diesel fuel into the water, leading to an environmental cleanup effort. Officials have stated that there is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. The California Highway Patrol is still looking into the details surrounding the accident. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family experiencing this profound loss and wish all those injured strength and a speedy recovery.
