Placer County, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 24, 2025, a multi-vehicle accident involving two motorcycles and a car resulted in the death of 78-year-old Leonidas Castro, as reported by The Sacramento Bee and the CHP Fatal reports. The California Highway Patrol indicated that the incident occurred around 3:07 PM in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Crystal Springs Road, within a construction zone. Authorities reported that Castro lost control of his motorcycle while navigating through that area. His bike veered off the road, propelling him onto the asphalt upon impact. Emergency responders arrived at the location promptly, but Castro suffered critical injuries and passed away prior to being taken to the hospital by paramedics. The accident also included another motorcycle and a passenger car. Authorities have not verified how many occupants were injured, but stated that everyone stayed at the location as investigators examined the situation. Traffic on Interstate 80 was halted for several hours following the accident. Police set up traffic halts to avoid additional accidents as the fire department and paramedics aided those affected. Tow trucks subsequently towed away the wrecked vehicles for investigative purposes. That evening, the Placer County Coroner’s Office determined the identity of Castro. Authorities are still looking into the factors that led to the accident. This includes examining wrongful death lawsuits and the concept of comparative negligence. Establishing liability in an accident can depend on various elements, and according to California’s Comparative Negligence law, multiple individuals may bear a portion of the blame.
