Altadena, CA (August 18, 2025) – A tragic accident claimed the life of a pedestrian Saturday evening at the intersection of Ocean View Blvd and Mira Vista Ave in Altadena, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal incident was reported at approximately 7:55 p.m. and involved a gold Mercury SUV that struck the pedestrian. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where the victim was sadly pronounced dead. Dispatch notes confirm that the vehicle remained at the location following the crash, and a formal fatality report was filed under CHP classification 1144.
As officers conducted their investigation, the surrounding area was cordoned off for evidence collection. Statements were taken from those at the scene, and Royal Coaches Towing was called in to assist with the removal of the vehicle for evidence processing.
A particularly heartbreaking detail emerged when it was discovered that the victim was accompanied by a dog at the time of the incident. The dog was found unharmed and was scanned for a microchip in an effort to help identify the deceased. Pasadena Animal Control later arrived on scene to assist with care for the animal.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones affected by this devastating loss.
Pedestrian Fatalities in Los Angeles County
Pedestrian-involved crashes remain a serious public safety concern in Los Angeles County, particularly in residential areas like Altadena where lighting conditions, road design, and speeding can all contribute to fatal outcomes. Intersections such as Ocean View Blvd and Mira Vista Ave, while typically quiet, can quickly become hazardous when drivers fail to yield or remain inattentive.
